Tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease.

It is a phenomena that occurs in the auditory system where a phantom noise is perceived .

This often manifests itself in various forms from ringing or buzzing noises to whooshing and hissing like sounds. Some hear humming or throbbing sounds, some even perceive music or tones.

  • At The Studio, we go further.

Tinnitus is not just the sound perceived by the patient, it can be troublesome and distracting for many, disturbing everyday activities and even affecting sleep. We are as interested in the nature of your tinnitus as we are in finding out the impact it is having on you!

From there we can work together to help, advise and assist where possible.

What causes Tinnitus?

To identify where the origin of the tinnitus source may be coming from, key areas need to be considered:

  • Hearing loss: age related or noise induced

  • Medical conditions: such as diabetes or thyroid disorders.

  • Certain medications: including some antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, aspirin and NSAID’s

  • Ear conditions: like Meniere's disease.

  • Stress, anxiety and depression.

  • Exposure to loud noise can have an impact

  • Ear infections and blockages through excessive ear wax.

Can it be treated?

Whilst there is no single cure, relief or masking techniques can help:

  • Where hearing loss is identified, hearing aids can help.

  • Sound therapy through masking the tinnitus with stimulant sounds.

  • Managing stress levels.

  • Treating underlying medical conditions.

  • Counselling or CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy).
